Brief
Dieback is a symptom – it refers to the progressive death of twigs, branches, or shoots, typically from the tip inward. It can be caused by many things: drought, root rot, pests, cold damage, or fungal infections. Think of dieback as the result, fungi, bacteria, insects or environmental stress as the causal agent. Dieback, or progressive browning in Podocarpus macrophyllus (commonly called Podocarpus maki or yew pine) usually results from environmental stress, pest or disease issues, or improper care.
